LANTRA 4x4 Professional Off-Road Driver
Lantra Awards 4x4 training courses are for any person who required to
operate a 4x4 vehicle in an off-road environment.
Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), anyone who is provided with specialist equipment (4×4 vehicles come under this title) must be trained in their use. Our training is usually undertaken at our base in Pembrokeshire, though we may be able to do training elsewhere, subject to our assessment of the site.
The Professional Certificate is for individuals expecting to operate 4x4 vehicles frequently or on more challenging terrain.
Eligibility Criteria
All trainees must be able to demonstrate that they are competent in driving normal vehicles in a road situation and hold a current driving licence.
Course content
Two day integrated training and assessment course for a maximum of three people.
- Vehicle knowledge
- Emergency procedures, including jacking
- Pre-start checks and vehicle preparation
- Correct move-off and driving procedures
- Use of 4-wheel drive and other traction aids
- Vehicle positioning and route planning
- Driving in a variety of off-road situations
- Check prior to returning to the road.
Assessment and Certification
An individual assessment will be carried out and those reaching the required standard will receive the nationally recognised LANTRA / NPTC certificate.
